CrossRoad: Lent Video Series

Join me on a 3-week journey to a fuller understanding of the Cross and the Christian life.

My foundational “CrossRoad” sermon series from 2019 has been distilled and repackaged into six short provocative and beautifully illustrated videos that pack a practical punch. This was a defining moment for me as a pastor and teacher, where drew a line in the sand and decided that the only Christianity worth our time is one that takes Jesus’ most scandalous teachings seriously. Let’s dive into the first two videos this week, and two more will be released the next two weeks leading up to Good Friday and Easter.

Series Overview

In the “CrossRoad” series, Pastor Jeremy Berg challenges believers to move beyond a passive faith and toward a radical imitation of Jesus’ life. He argues that the cross is more than a historical event for salvation; it is a lifelong pattern for conduct that requires Christians to love their enemies and practice non-violence. Jeremy confesses to previously avoiding these difficult teachings and but now calls the church to embrace a “cruciform” lifestyle that may clash with cultural and political norms. By viewing the church as a distinct alternative society, Berg emphasizes that true discipleship involves prioritizing the character of God over worldly success or national interests. This series serves as an invitation to treat the Great Commission as a mandate for literal obedience to the demanding ethics of the Kingdom of God.

CrossRoad 1: Road Less Traveled

This series explores how the cross was not just the way Jesus died, but a new radical and largely untried pattern for how to live. Followers of Jesus are called not just to celebrate the CrossEvent, but to embark on the CrossRoad. Buckle up for a fascinating trip into Kingdom ethics.

CrossRoad 2: Did the Disciples Ever Get it?

The Transfiguration event served as a necessary divine validation for the disciples before they faced the trauma of the crucifixion. This message asks: Did the disciples ever “get it”? Did they eventually traded their desires for earthly dominance for a life defined by self-sacrifice and non-violence.

These visual sermons are an experimental project aimed at sharing my 20+ years of writing and teaching with a wider audience. Please subscribe and share!
