Every fall youth pastors must decide which direction we’re going to take our students in our Bible teaching. And, in my experience, this is not always a clear-cut decision and there are a thousand different topics I’d love to tackle. So, we all must go through some discernment process, prayerful consideration and preparation.
Here are some question I have for fellow youth speakers:
1. What do you think is the most urgent message/topic teens need clear biblical teaching on today?
2. What topics do you think have possibly been overdone? Which messages do students roll their eyes at and say, “Not again…I’ve heard this talk a dozen times”?
3. Do you have an established process for choosing your message topics? Is this an individual or team process? How do students inform the process? Where does God fit into the process?
4. What is your preferred style of preaching to students? Do you experiment with different styles? What seems to work? What doesn’t work?
