As many of you are aware, the Internet Monk, Michael Spencer was a beloved influence and favorite writer of mine. He passed away recently after a short bout with cancer.
By the grace of God he was able to finish his first book for publishing shortly before becoming ill. His book, “Mere Churchianity: Finding Our Way Back to a Jesus-Shaped Spirituality” will hit the stores this summer. But you can read the introduction today HERE.
I just read it, and I’m looking forward to reading more of Michael’s last words. He closes his introduction in classic raw, honest iMonk style as he reflects back on how he and his youth group treated the employees at a Dairy Queen one evening after youth group:
“Here is the truth: Far from being Jesus-shaped Christians, we were church shaped. In fact, we were deniers of Jesus. We were frighteningly close to being Judas. The girl working behind the counter pointed all this out to me more than three decades ago, but I wasn’t listening. Today I’m paying attention, and this book is my repentance. It’s a good time to get started.”

I am looking forward reading this interesting book… I have found myself in a new journey searching Jesus even more without the traditional doctrines and tradition of the church. I have learned that Jesus taught so much about the Kingdom of Heaven, at the Sermon on the Mount, but the church has overlooked it by focusing on other trivial things. PLease see my blog “www.whoischrist.wordpress.com” for more information about my journey. I will comment more as I learn more about Michael Spencer’s book. God bless!
