“Contrasts” by Brandon Hull

We’re excited to bring you another poem from our friend Brandon Hull.  Please go check his writings out at Pushing Through Concrete.

i seem to be learning that living is dying.
waking is sleeping and contentment is trying.

i seem to be finding that winning is losing
that seeing is blinding and healing is bruising.

the yes and the no, with the come and the go
the ups and the downs, with the ebb and the flow

confusion is knowledge, and the confident fall
there’s strength in our weakness, the humble stand tall

God breaks us to fix us, its by faith that he leads
we slave ourselves to him, when we want to be freed

my life’s a contradiction, it’s a battle for my soul
we buy health, fame and money when we try to fill that hole

how to live with all this madness? where’s the calm inside this storm?
why blend in with the crazy when He’s called us to transform?

our hearts, our minds, our bodies and wills, we want to be alive
why we’re stuck with all this madness, we won’t know till we arrive

but you demand that we be different, you have called us to conform
to the example you set by giving your life, and defying what’s the norm

be our guide, be our light, be the reason that we see
that when we’re lost, when we’re blind, You’re the reason that we’re free
