Statement made during assembly of evangelical pastors in 1877 pleading for a union of evangelical believers based on scripture alone without regard to human creeds or confessions:

Let us in this matter be followers of Jesus and not split into different denominations and factions; we have the same Savior. Rather may all those who are one in faith in Christ Jesus unite their efforts and appear to the world that it may turn to the Lord and be united in its endeavors to bring souls to Christ. . . . If in love of the truth and of peace all evangelical witnesses within a city were united with one another in the work of bringing souls to Christ, we should see blessed results of their labors” (Waldenstrom, 1877).
