Awhile back I shared my kids’ custom bedtime prayers about dinosaurs roaring and monsters tickling feet. We grown-ups are watching living monsters lurk and real nightmare scenarios on the nightly news. Here’s my bedtime prayer for such as time as this.

Now I lay me down to sleep,

I pray the Lord my sanity to keep.

Keep me on your path so bright,

My hope is not in the Left or Right.

Keep me humble, loving and true,

Let my words and actions reflect You.

Thy kingdom come on earth I pray,

Thy will be done in and through me this day.

Guide your church through this dark night,

Wake us up! To better shine your light.

Amen.
