The Sun vs. The Storm

I snapped the photo above this past weekend at Silver Beach at Covenant Pines where we were gathered for our annual family cabin weekend with Keri’s entire family. The photo captures a classic “calm before the storm” moment, the sun setting as the storm sets in. You can see the silhouettes of the kids on the end of the dock, in awe of the rare colors in the sky.

Spiritually speaking, the photo reminds me of John’s Gospel promise that “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” There are times when it looks like the storm clouds are about to “win” and there are long, dark nights of the soul when the sun doesn’t show its face.

But, friends, we are Easter people who know that the sun/Son will rise again on the other side of this present darkness. And this photo also reminds us that even when the storm clouds are strutting their stuff, there is also much beauty to be found for those with eyes to see.

What do you see in that photo above? What message do you see in that sky?

Here are some other photos of that amazing sky!
