Will We Have Freewill in Heaven?

In my interactions with students addressing the large topics of God’s sovereignty and human free will, the question that often gets raised is this: If human free will led to sinful actions that led to the fall of humankind and all the brokenness we find in our world, will we have free will in Heaven? If so, won’t we screw up Heaven the same way we screwed up earth?

These questions and more are addressed in a podcast all curious thinkers and buddying theologians should check out. Greg Boyd: Apologies & Explanations is hosted by my good friend Dan Kent. Every couple days they put out a new episode responding to listener questions, and no question is out of bounds.

The episodes are nice and short, ranging between 2 and 10 minutes. Perfect for a morning shower or quick commute to get your brain going for the day. (They even throw in Greg’s original drum solos for bumper music at no extra cost.)

The latest episode addresses our question: “How is it possible heaven will be free of death, sin and suffering? But the questions don’t remain in the abstract theology realm, but often get into deep and personal pastoral questions and issues such as, “Have I truly repented of my sin if I haven’t yet forgiven myself?”
