“The obviously well kept secret of the “ordinary” is that it is made to be a receptacle of the divine, a place where the life of God flows.” These words from Dallas Willard get to the heart of my meditation this coming Sunday as I get into the character of Mary in our “Contemplative Christmas” series.
I am delighted with how my first person narrative about Mary turned out, and even tested it out on one of my college classes this week. I was introducing them to the contemplative tradition, and thought this would be a nice taste of contemplative spirituality, pondering what it means to become the holy dwelling of the Eternal God.
I won’t spoil anything; come and hear it live at MainStreet Covenant at St. Martin’s By the Lake Sunday at 5pm. My friend, Karen, will be leading us in the contemplative practice of Visio Divina looking at Michaelangelo’s Pieta. If you can’t join us, I will share the script of my meditation and feature it on The Anchor Podcast next week.
What a week of ministry it’s been for this (trying to be) Happy Sower!
- I wrote my original script & recorded a podcast on Monday
- Prepared lectures & taught college classes Tuesday & Thursday
- Prepped and performed a concert at Calvin Presbyterian Wednesday night
- Graded 70 papers – 10 min per paper = 700 minutes (12 hrs)
- Planned a service, created & printed bulletins, updated blog Friday
- Got a migraine and had a panic attack somewhere in there, too.
Next week is my last week of the semester, 100 more papers to grade, and two more Christmas concert gigs next week! Chances to share the light of Christ and hope of the gospel in unique settings. I’ll hopefully get to visit with the gentleman who doesn’t have a church and possibly wants me to do his funeral someday. I mentioned him a while back.
God is good.
If you feel led to support our ministry, you can give a year end gift here.
