Hungry Families Need Food

The Evangelical Covenant Church of which I am a part has a long and rich history in the Congo. Keri and I have been blessed to sponsor a child, Sage, in the Congo for 15 years now as part of a Covenant partnership with World Vision. So, I wanted to share the following urgent message from World Relief. Considering joining the Path (details below). -JB

Fifteen-year-old Sitia was forced to flee her home due to war northwest of Goma in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a departure marked by unimaginable loss. “This cursed journey was the worst nightmare of our life,” she says. “I cannot even speak of all we endured because every time I think about it, I cry. Having miraculously survived the bombs and seeing my parents and baby sibling die, being displaced and becoming responsible for four siblings without any means of survival is an ordeal that I endure daily.” At that tender age, she became their sole caregiver, eventually finding refuge in the Don Bosco displacement camp.

For months, Sitia’s family had no access to food. Desperate, her younger brother often resorted to begging. But USAID’s emergency food assistance, in partnership with World Relief, changed everything, providing essentials like corn flour, beans, rice, oil and salt. “USAID food aid provided via World Relief has renewed our hope and alleviated our suffering,” she shares.

WILL YOU HELP KIDS LIKE SITIA?

But today, hope has dimmed for countless people as a U.S. government funding freeze has forced World Relief to halt critical programs, jeopardizing life-saving services for those needing them most.

Right now, escalating violence in and around Goma, DR Congo, has forced hundreds and thousands of people from their homes, leaving families without food or shelter. Those who are able to remain face severe shortages. World Relief urgently needs funds to feed families like Sitia’s, who have gone days without food. Your generosity can help provide urgent relief, prevent starvation and help communities have access to resources until the next planting season.

Your one-time gift of $140 can provide enough food and care for one person for 18 days.
