Are You On Greg’s List?

You’ve heard of Craig’s List, but have you heard of Greg’s List?

Greg Speck is a gifted Christian youth speaker. He’s half stand up comedian, half pastor. Decades ago, I was bringing youth groups to hear Greg Speak at youth rallies. He makes you laugh, and then he makes you cry. Rolling on the floor, snort laughing one minute, and then hiding tears the next. He’s hilarious. He’s gifted. He’s anointed by God to bring the message of God’s amazing grace and undying love to squirrelly middle schoolers and too-cool high schoolers.

At the end of every event, he takes a moment to invite everyone to send him a friend request on Facebook. (I’m dating myself now; perhaps he’s doing something similar with Instagram, TikTok, or whatever.) Once you become “friends” on Facebook, you are on Greg’s list — his birthday wish list, that is. And once you are on it, you cannot get off of it — but why would you want to?

I am on Greg’s list.

I don’t know how he does it, if it’s autogenerated or personally written, the same generic message for everyone, or tailor made just for me, but every birthday I get a very funny, thoughtful, wise and encouraging birthday message from Greg on my Facebook page. We’re talking probably 20 years now!

If you know how he does it, please don’t tell me. I want it to remain magical. His messages to me when I was a 20-something youth pastor spoke to me in that season. His messages to me when I was a new church planter and pastor in my 30s spoke to me in that season. These days his messages are perfect for a middle-aged dad often feeling insecure about my parenting and turning to fast food too often for comfort food.

I thought I would share his message with all of you today, and don’t hesitate to reach out to Greg with a friend request. Maybe you’ll find yourself on his list as well. What a powerful ministry of words. He must be touching thousands of people, a dozen each day, with his birthday messages. Enjoy! (And thanks Greg!)
