Happy Saturday to you all. I’m serenading my chickens and showing off my “new” vintage 1949 Gibson LG-2. This is my favorite Elton John song (words by Bernie Taupin) released in 1970.
Part of the magic of my marriage with Keri these past 20 years is that we have very similar music tastes. We both love oldies, folk-Americana, 90s alternative, good country. She has a strange affinity for poppy boy bands (“New Kids”; Justin Bieber, etc.) that I don’t share, but for the most part we align.
The one tragic exception is she does not like Elton John. Even more inexplicable, she does not even like THIS song, which ranks in my top 10 love songs of all time. I tear up every time I hear it. I love playing it at my solo shows, and the crowd loves it too. So, “this song is my gift and this one’s for you”—every one of you but Keri, I guess.
It’s also fun doing a quintessential piano ballad on a guitar. Enjoy!
