Meekness Isn’t Weakness

This fall we are spending several weeks meditating on the Beatitudes in a series of posts by the good folks at The After Party. This week we turn to Blessed are the Meek. I would like to start with a personal question: If the meek will inherit the land, then why do we allow the social media algorithms to let the loud and the brash rule our land? -JB

From The After Party:

In a world that equates loudness with strength, Jesus lifts up the meek as the ones who will inherit the earth.

Meekness isn’t weakness. It’s quiet strength. It’s the ability to stay rooted and gentle, even when the world demands rage and noise.

This week, pause and reflect:

  • How can you pursue meekness in your life? At home, at work, in political conversations?
  • Who are the people around you that embody quiet strength? Thank God for them today.
  • How can you pray for greater meekness in our nation – in our politics, in our leaders, and in yourself?

The world doesn’t need more shouting. It needs more people grounded in Christ, whose strength is so steady it doesn’t need to prove itself.

Who in your life needs to hear this truth today? Share The After Party with them as a pathway to walk in true strength through humility.

A Prayer for Meekness

Blessed are the meek—but Lord, we are not.

We push, posture, and protect.

We fear being overlooked, unheard, unseen.

Teach us the quiet strength of Jesus.

Slow our reactions.

Soften our edges.

Open our hearts.

Give us meekness for ourselves, where shame has hardened us.

Meekness for others, especially those we resist.

Meekness in the public square, where power so often shouts.

Let us not seek to win, but to witness.

To reflect your gentleness in a world addicted to outrage.

Amen.
