Summers I typically lighten my preaching load and take time away. This summer I have had the pedal to the metal, preaching Sunday mornings at Brookdale, Fairview, and Redwing, while leading MainStreet gatherings Sunday evenings. And a bazillion kids activities all week long. So, I have been looking forward to my solo retreat to the North Shore at Burlington Bay all summer.

When I sneak off alone for getaways, the experience usually boils down to lots of reading, hiking, browsing used bookstores, playing some golf and finding the best pizza in town. On those fronts, this getaway in Two Harbor was a home run. I’ll keep my words short, and let you enjoy my watercolor photos from the trip with the following captions that correspond to the photos below. The weather was PERFECT, my golf game was not.

7. First time at Enger Tower since me and some high school buddies drove up to watch the sunrise from it before school some 30 years ago.
