VIDEO: What does it mean to be saved? (Boyd)

Here’s two clips of a sermon by Greg Boyd called ‘Taking Out the Trash‘(5/11/2008) where he addresses the central question: What does it mean to “get saved?”

Many people (especially people in the United States) see salvation as a one time event and the result of “believing” certain things about God. While belief is important, salvation encompasses much more than that. The salvation that God offers is a continual personal transformation where the trash of our old lives is replaced by the beauty of God’s Kingdom. [Focus Scripture: Luke 12:1-5]

Boyd challenges the popularly held law court or transaction analogy of Christ’s saving work, warning against using this analogy as the only way of understanding what it means for Jesus save us.  Watch both videos and tell me: What do you think of Boyd’s argument?  Does his view line up with Scripture? 1. Absolutely spot on!

Its a good reminder that salvation is not just forensic and/or eschatological but also a continuous and present reality – I have been saved, I will be saved – but I am also being saved – we’ve got to remember this – active transformation not just passive hope!!!

Brilliant stuff – thanks for posting it, Jeremy.
