  1. three things:

    (1) This sounds an awful lot like blaming the victim to me. If the statement is true, a more pressing issue is: If people are not as excited as they should be, what are our leaders doing wrong? I suspect it is because leaders are addicted to provoking excitement and “inspiration.” Sorry Christian motivational thinkers, we’re burnt out on excitement.

    (2) You can’t command excitement out of someone. Duh.

    (3) Even if you could, who cares about excitement? More than excitement, we need authenticity. But if your goal is excitement, good luck finding authentic people.

Thanks, Jeremy. Another thought-provoking post on Daily Illumination! I think I like the posts more when I disagree with them. :-)

    1. Thanks Dan. Glad to upset you again. :)

      3 things:

      1. I think the “excitement” he is talking about is authentic passion for living for God; not a cheesy excitement conjured up by a pastor at a church service.

      2. True, you can’t command excitement. But you can prophetically call out lukewarmness where it lies, and challenge lethargic Christians to recover their “first love” (Rev 3:15-19). Not a popular role, but there is a time and place for this within the church.

      3. Victim? Those who claim to follow Christ but get more excited about football than Kingdom work are not victims. They are … lethargic, and need to be called out.

      What do you think?
